Since 2018, The Port has been proud to partner with Avondale’s anchor institutions to bring new life—and new homeowners—to the neighborhood. On a once-vacant lot, 11 newly constructed homes stand as a testament to the shared effort and persistence it took to turn a long-held vision into a reality. Designed and built by local architect Jose Garcia, the homes offer modern comfort, sweeping views, and a sense of community.
The project included community engagement sessions with the Avondale Community Council and the Avondale Development Corporation to ensure neighbors had a voice in shaping their neighborhood’s future.
These new homes build on earlier efforts by The Port, including the rehab and new construction of nine homes on nearby streets, strengthening the foundation for homeownership in Avondale.
Momentum in the neighborhood continues with a new round of development that will bring 12 affordable homes to Avondale. This phase will offer local contractors hands-on new-construction experience to build their portfolios and pursue future projects. It’s a win-win: more affordable housing and more opportunity for our region’s emerging contractors.
