Position Description:

POSITION TITLE: Director of Human Resources

FLSA CATEGORY: Exempt

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Executive Vice President and General Counsel

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority is seeking a motivated and organized Human Resources (HR) professional to manage and enhance The Port’s employee policies and procedures. In this critical role, you will lead the administration and development of our HR policies and promote orderly growth as we continue to grow over the coming years.  

  1. Ensures legal compliance with applicable local, state and federal employment laws, with assistance from general counsel. 
  2. Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to staff (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, employee development plans, action plans and disciplinary plans), with a focus on skills and talents useful in the real estate development industry. 
  3. Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention. 
  4. Responds to employee relations issues such as employee complaints and harassment and discrimination allegations, including conducting effective, thorough, and objective investigations as necessary.  
  5. Responsible for all personnel administration including, but not limited to, hiring, disciplining, evaluating, and terminating. 
  6. Work with management to create succession plans. 
  7. Conducts recruitment activities; writes and places advertisements; works with supervisors to screen and interview candidates; conducts reference checking; extends job offers; conducts new-employee orientations; monitors career-path program and employee relations counseling; conducts exit interviews. 
  8. Ensures compliance with all Company human resource policies. 
  9. Develops, recommends, implements and administers human resource policies. 
  10. Makes recommendations for, implements and administers compensation and benefits programs. 
  11. Makes recommendations for and negotiates coverage and pricing for all company-provided benefits. 
  12. Reviews performance evaluations and monitors performance evaluation program using TrakStar system. 
  13. Responsible for workers’ compensation administration. 
  14. Responsible for compliance with OSHA including preparing the OSHA log, summaries and other required forms. 
  15. Represents the company for unemployment claims, discrimination charges, government employment-related audits.  
  16. Supports leadership in establishment of training and development programs. 
  17. Responsible for compliance with all human resource recordkeeping requirements and maintains human resource information system records. 
  18. Maintain working knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partner with general counsel and outside employment legal counsel as needed/required. 
  19. Direct and manage other HR and organizational development matters as requested by the President/CEO.

Minimum Employment Requirements:

Education and Work Experience

  1. Post-secondary degree in Human Resources Management or a related field. 
  2. 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience. 
  3. Current SHRM certification. 
  4. Proficiency with MS Office as well as HRIS/payroll systems. 
  5. A team player with a strong ability to work well with others – both internally and externally. 
  6. Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and listening skills.  
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  8. Self-motivated and energetic with a strong work ethic and the ability to think creatively. 
  9. Highly organized and detail oriented. 
  10. Other Prerequisites
  11. Satisfactory results on pre-employment written and oral testing, as administered by appropriate practitioners at The Port’s direction. 
  12. Satisfactory results of background investigations. 
  13. Be insurable and maintain insurability for the operation of motor vehicles, as use of personal vehicle may be required to attend out-of-office meetings. 
  14. Ability to perform all the essential functions of the position outlined herein without creating a direct or indirect threat to the safety of oneself or others.
