Ben Helmus

Ben joined The Port in 2025 as a Senior Accountant, where he supports the Accounting Manager and CFO in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring timely month-end closings in compliance with GAAP and internal policies. His responsibilities include preparing general ledger entries, reconciling accounts, managing receivables from grants and tenants, monitoring cash activity, and supporting the annual audit process. In this position, Ben oversees trust, investment, and loan activity, while identifying opportunities to improve accounting efficiency and reporting accuracy.

Before joining The Port, Ben worked as a Staff Accountant at Pioneer Cladding & Glazing Systems, Inc., where he compiled profitability reports and ensured compliance with tax and licensing requirements. He also developed custom Excel tools for accounts receivable aging and billing analysis, and gained experience with software systems such as PCC (Point Click Care), Prime View, DSSI, and Net Health.

Previously, Ben worked at LEAF Commercial Capital in Philadelphia, PA, first as a Credit Analyst Intern and then as a Financial Analyst. In these roles, he reviewed credit applications, analyzed rate portfolios, and supported account executives in offering strategic rate concessions. He worked with tools such as OnBase, Salesforce, Sales Portal, Pricing Repository, TValue 5, and a range of credit evaluation platforms including D&B, Experian, and ProPublica. He graduated from Wittenberg with a double major in Economics and Finance
