Revitalizing Madisonville: ARPA Investment Drives Affordable Housing Growth
Madisonville, a vibrant and historic neighborhood northeast of Cincinnati, had long been known for its tree-lined streets, abundant green space, and strong sense of pride among its 10,000 residents. Over the past decade, intentional development helped bridge Madisonville’s rich past with its future, strengthening the business district and expanding housing opportunities for families of all income levels.
ARPA Funding and Housing Initiatives
Thanks to funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), The Port, in partnership with the Madisonville Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (MCURC), furthered this momentum by leading the construction of nine new affordable homes to support the neighborhood’s real estate ecosystem through our public finance practice. This initiative ensured that as Madisonville grew, it remained accessible to longtime residents and new families alike, providing homeownership opportunities that counteracted rising housing costs.
The Port’s Role in Project Execution
“This project demonstrates how strategic investment and collaboration drive meaningful change. By converting vacant properties into quality, affordable homes, we are preserving homeownership opportunities in Madisonville” – Elizabeth Eddy, Vice President of Development, The Port.
The Port’s role in this project extended beyond funding—our expertise in executing complex real estate developments allowed us to step in and assist MCURC with project management, permitting, and execution. Additionally, through the Hamilton County Landbank, we acquired vacant properties and transformed them into high-quality, affordable homes.
A Stronger, Inclusive Community
This effort was not only about building homes; it was about fostering a community where everyone, regardless of income, could thrive. Through strong partnerships with developers, contractors, and local stakeholders, Madisonville set a precedent for neighborhood revitalization that balanced growth with affordability. With ARPA funding fueling this transformation, Madisonville evolved into a stronger, more inclusive community—one where its rich history and close-knit spirit remained at the heart of its development. And most importantly, nine families are now proud homeowners, securing a future in the community they love.
