News Release: City and Port Secure State Funding for MidPointe Site
“We are pleased that the State of Ohio chose to award this grant,” said Brandon Rudd, Deputy Director of the Office of Strategic Growth. “The investment will help advance a major redevelopment opportunity in Bond Hill, supporting new housing, neighborhood revitalization, and long-term economic growth along one of our city’s busiest transit corridors.”
The City applied for the grant in partnership with The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority (The Port), which owns the site and is leading its development. The grant, announced Friday by Governor Mike DeWine, will fund hard costs for site clearing and grading, stormwater infrastructure design and installation, and road subbase design and construction, the essential groundwork needed before vertical construction can begin.
“MidPointe is a unique opportunity to transform a centrally located, publicly owned site into a vibrant residential community near one of our region’s largest employment centers,” said Lindsey Florea, The Port’s Senior Vice President of Real Estate Development Services. “In partnership with the City of Cincinnati and the Bond Hill community, we are advancing a shared vision that will bring new workforce housing choices, new investment, and long-term economic opportunity to the neighborhood.”
The Swifton Commons Shopping Center, formerly located on the MidPointe site, was demolished by The Port in 2013 at the City's request. After several redevelopment efforts from the private sector, The Port convened an advisory group in 2025 to gauge stakeholder interest in what they want to see on the site and chart a path to get there.
“The Bond Hill community is grateful for the collaborative relationship between our stakeholders, The Port, and the City of Cincinnati as we continue moving forward with the MidPointe redevelopment project,” shared Jacqueline R. Edmerson, President of the Bond Hill Community Council. “This important investment represents a shared commitment to community growth, economic opportunity, and neighborhood revitalization, and we are excited to see this project take shape. Let the work begin!”
This project ultimately addresses the housing demand generated by recent investments from Total Quality Logistics, LLC, and CDK Global, LLC., and the relocation of some Hamilton County administrative departments to Bond Hill following the acquisition of the Mercy Health building. It represents a significant step forward in expanding affordable housing options near major employment centers.
