The Cincy Hat Foundation Breaks Ground in Madisonville

In February, Cincinnati Bengals’ Center Ted Karras and his nonprofit, the Cincy Hat Foundation, officially broke ground in Madisonville on a thoughtfully designed housing development for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). What was once a vacant parcel held by the Hamilton County Landbank, a managed entity of The Port, is now on its way to becoming purpose-built supportive housing designed to foster independence and connection.

The event brought together project partners and community members to celebrate the start of construction and the collaboration behind a development that will expand supportive housing opportunities in the Madisonville neighborhood.

Construction Underway in Sedamsville

The Port has begun rehabbing 12 of a planned 18 single-family homes in Sedamsville, marking a major milestone in the neighborhood’s ongoing revitalization. Renovation work on the remaining homes will begin soon. Earlier phases included interior demolition and site preparation to stabilize the properties and prepare them for full rehabilitation.

Once completed, the homes will be offered as new homeownership opportunities, with construction anticipated to wrap up by the end of 2026. The project is designed to expand access to quality, attainable housing while supporting long-term neighborhood stability.

This work is made possible through the support of the City of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, the Ohio Department of Development, and the Cincinnati Development Fund.

Public Finance Spotlight: Montgomery & Maple Senior Housing in Norwood

A new 178-unit affordable senior housing community is planned for the former Quality Inn site at Montgomery Road and Maple Avenue in Norwood. Developed by PLK Communities, in partnership with Birge & Held, the project will redevelop the site into a residential community designed for residents aged 55 and older.

Through its Public Finance Practice, The Port is supporting the project with bond financing to help advance the development. Once complete, the community will provide affordable, accessible housing options for seniors who want to downsize while remaining close to their neighborhoods and daily services.

With planning underway and construction anticipated to begin this year, the Montgomery & Maple development represents an important step in expanding quality housing options for older adults in the region.
