The Port is Hiring: Industrial Development Associate
The Position
The Port is seeking an Industrial Development Associate. This position will be on the Port’s Industrial Development Team, which works to strategically assemble land in Hamilton County industrial corridors to create attractive development sites for manufacturing companies. The Industrial Development Associate will be responsible for the due diligence, remediation, demolition, and site work on multiple brownfield industrial sites. This position reports directly to the Director of Industrial Development.
The Port is an economic development agency that initiates projects to improve property value and promote job creation throughout Hamilton County. The organization focuses on three key strategies – industrial revitalization, neighborhood revitalization, and public finance. In support of these initiatives, The Port offers partnerships, programs, and services to support the advancement of Hamilton County. The programs and services are available to small businesses, developers, homebuyers, and neighborhood advocates.
The Port’s industrial revitalization strategy includes the identification, evaluation, acquisition, remediation, redevelopment, and disposition of large-scale industrial assets. This includes identifying sources of capital, solving regulatory requirements, providing long-term holding and maintenance needs, and community engagement. The Industrial Team manages the Greater Cincinnati Foreign Trade Zone, Greater Cincinnati Development Corporation, and the Patient Capital Noteholder investors.
Experience and Education
The minimum qualifications for this position are a bachelor’s degree in construction management, urban planning, civil engineering, environmental engineering, architecture, or a closely related field with a preference for at least three years of professional experience in construction and/or project management. Additional requirements include:
- A familiarity with construction materials, methods, and processes.
- The ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
- Familiarity with construction payment applications, draw requests, etc.
- Familiarity with grant funding and compliance reporting
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Experience on construction sites to attend meetings, perform site observation, etc., and experience writing construction field observation reports.
- The ability to effectively communicate with developers, contractors, engineers, certified professionals, and Port team members.
- Ability to plan, track, and communicate project timelines, milestones, and deliverables to project partners.
- Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- The ability to identify, reduce or eliminate project risk, through observation, assessment, and problem-solving.
- Experience writing field observation reports.
- Excellent judgment and integrity. The Port is an independent unit of local government working for the betterment of the Public Good in Hamilton County.
- Experience with large-scale building demolition, and basic knowledge of environmental remediation processes, are preferred.
